What is OBE Evaluator?

OBE Evaluator is a free Outcome-Based Education (OBE) grading and attainment system for traditional public universities, modeled on the University of Chittagong. A teacher fills one Excel template offline, uploads it, and gets back a formal tabulation sheet PDF with Course Outcome (CO) attainment — ready to print, sign, envelope, and send to the Controller of Examinations.

How does CO attainment work?

A student attains a CO when they score ≥ the threshold (default 60%) on every question mapped to that CO. CO attainment % = attained students / all enrolled students. Ungraded students count as not attained. When the template’s CO column is left blank, Q1→CO1, Q2→CO2, etc. automatically.

Does it work offline?

The desktop .exe works entirely offline — it uses an embedded PostgreSQL (PGlite) database with no server configuration. The cloud web app requires internet to upload the Excel file and generate the PDF.

What is the approval workflow?

Each grading sheet moves through Draft → Submitted → Moderated → Verified → Published. Each transition records who performed it and when, creating an audit trail. A sheet that is Moderated, Verified, or Published cannot be re-uploaded — roll it back to Submitted first.

How many students and questions are supported?

Up to 60 students and 10 questions per template. The Excel template is pre-formatted with these limits and includes data validation to prevent invalid entries.

What is Bloom’s Taxonomy in OBE Evaluator?

Each question is tagged with a Bloom’s Taxonomy cognitive level (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, create). This is stored in the database and can be used for higher-level attainment analysis across an assessment or course.

Can I use OBE Evaluator for my university?

Yes. OBE Evaluator is designed for traditional public universities following OBE guidelines. It is modeled on the University of Chittagong but works for any institution that uses Course Outcomes (COs) and Program Outcomes (POs) with threshold-based attainment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OBE Evaluator really free?

Yes. Both the cloud web app and the offline desktop .exe are completely free — no ads, no telemetry, no subscription. MIT licensed.

Does the desktop app need a database server?

No. The desktop .exe uses PGlite (PostgreSQL compiled to WASM) — an embedded, file-based database. No installation or configuration needed.

How many students and questions per template?

Up to 60 students and 10 questions per template. The Excel file includes data validation to prevent invalid entries.

Can I re-upload to fix a mistake?

Yes, as long as the grading sheet has not advanced past "Submitted". Moderated, Verified, or Published sheets are locked — roll back to Submitted first.

Does the PDF need Chrome installed?

The desktop app uses Puppeteer (bundled Chromium) for PDF generation. The cloud version uses an installed Chrome or Edge. If neither is available, the HTML preview still works.
